How to fight Illinois Tollway fines? ›

As a customer, you have the right to dispute your charges by filling out a sworn Affidavit of Non-Liability and providing documentation as to the nature of the dispute.

What do I do if I did not pay a toll? When you miss a toll on the Illinois Tollway, you are expected to pay the toll online, within 14 days of travel. Failure to pay tolls can result in fines, fees and possible suspension of your license plate and/or your driver's license.

The program eliminated penalties for missed tolls and decreased hefty and controversial fines for unpaid tolls. Instead, drivers are to pay the missed toll amount and $3 per violation.

The Illinois Tax Amnesty Program allowed qualified taxpayers to pay off any outstanding state tax liability and have corresponding penalties and interest forgiven. Eligible taxpayers would have incurred a tax liability after June 30, 2011 and before July 1, 2018.

The Toll Highway Act is the state law that established the Illinois State Toll Highway Authority and granted the agency authority to provide for the construction, operation, regulation and maintenance of the system of toll highways in Illinois.

Customers with outstanding initial toll invoices issued on or after October 1, 2022, will be issued a Notice of Violation, which may result in an additional $20 fine per toll. However, customers will have an opportunity to dispute violations including via a hearing.
